
About the Team
We are a like-minded, experienced group of professional educators, executives and managers who are passionate about supporting children’s learning and development. Many of us have worked together before and are excited to reunite to build a truly unique Kindergarten experience for Singaporean and expatriate children and their families.

Louise Grant
Founding Director
Louise Grant is the Founding Director of Primus Schoolhouse, Singapore.
She was Founding Principal of SJI International Elementary School Singapore, having previously been the Curriculum Coordinator at United World College of South East Asia.
Prior to UWCSEA, she was Head of Year 5 and 6 at Alice Smith British School, Malaysia.
After gaining a Master of Education (with Merit) from the University of Sydney, Louise’s first experience of international education was as Founding Head of Primary at the Australian International School, Singapore.
During her time in Australia, Louise was the Founding Head of Primary at The McDonald College, a specialist performing Arts school and Principal at St Mary’s Primary School in NSW. Louise served on the Association of Catholic Schools Principals and as a member of the Principal’s Executive, Louise enjoyed mentoring principals across the region.
Louise is delighted to have returned to the vibrant education scene in Singapore to lead the establishment of Primus Schoolhouse premium kindergartens in Singapore.
FUN FACT: Following a lifelong passion for ballet and dance, Louise was privileged to curtsy to Queen Elizabeth II; a memorable moment.

Chia Puay Leng
Director of Chinese Programmes
Chia Puay Leng was the Head of Chinese at SJII Elementary School (2010 – 2018) and the Head of Asian Languages at SJII High School (2007 – 2009).
Puay Leng was instrumental in developing the Chinese curriculum in both schools. At SJII ES, she led a team of dedicated teachers to create a conducive and effective environment for learning Chinese. Prior to this, Puay Leng taught students from the ages of 4 to 18 at The United College of Southeast Asia.
Xie Laoshi has worked with preschool children from the ages of 18 months to 6 years when she was the Director and Centre Supervisor at the Experiential Learning Centre.
As the senior producer at the Ministry of Education (1999 – 2000), she directed in-house videos and educational programmes for the Ministry.
Puay Leng holds a Master of Education, a Diploma (Leadership) in Early Childhood Studies and a Degree of Bachelor of Arts.
FUN FACT: Puay Leng lived in Singapore’s last surviving village, Kampong Lorong Buangkok, until she was 18. She will never forget waking up to a python under her bed!

Kristy Chissom
Operations Director
Joining the Primus Schoolhouse team is Kristy’s first experience in the education sector and she has found a new niche, thoroughly enjoying interacting with the children and their families and being an integral part of the life of the school. In her role, as Administration Manager, she oversees the finance, operations and enrolment processes.
Kristy has over 20 years of experience in finance and corporate accounting in the USA and Singapore. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from the University of Houston, TX, USA.
Originally from Alabama, USA, Kristy has been living in Singapore for 18 years. She is an avid trail runner and owner of two cats and a dog, who she likes to take on long hikes and runs on the beach. Kristy brings many skills and knowledge from her background and great enthusiasm from supporting all facets of the school.
FUN FACT: Kristy has mingled with the Hollywood elite during her time as an extra on the 1994 movie Cobb.

Angelia Than
Principal
Angelia has 20 years of experience working with young children, she graduated with a Diploma in Early Childhood with Leadership and subsequently a Degree in Early Childhood and Management.
She has been a finalist recipient for the MoE (Singapore) Kindergarten Teacher award and Best Team Practices award. Angelia was also nominated to go on a Best Practices exchange to Budapest, Hungary where she visited five different preschools.
Angelia believes every child is a unique individual and deserves a safe and secure environment to grow and flourish.
FUN FACT: Angelia longs for the stage! She is trained in Chinese, Malay, and Indian cultural dance. She can’t wait to fly through the air and try aerial dancing!

Cherry Dequina
Receptionist
Cherry received a full scholarship to study Hotel and Restaurant Management in the Philippines and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree.
Cherry worked in the Maldives within the hospitality industry and it was a dream come true! She enjoyed meeting and mingling with people from different cultures and from all over the world!
Cherry is an outgoing person who loves to do outdoor activities like cycling, swimming and running. She believes that for a long, healthy and happy life you need to find ikigai, the age-old Japanese ideology that’s long been associated with the nation’s long-life expectancy. It is used to describe value or worth, ikigai is all about finding joy in life through purpose.
FUN FACT: So you think you can dance? When Cherry was young, she used to compete in ballroom dance competitions. She is always ready to take the stage!

Rissa Yang
Lead English Teacher
Rissa has had a wonderful time working with children, families and other stakeholders in the early childhood sector for fifteen years now. This experience has provided her many valuable opportunities for self-discovery and growth. She looks forward to having a fulfilling learning journey with everyone in Primus.
Rissa loves the sun, sand and sea and visiting islands around the region has always been her top holiday destination. As an advocate for life-long learning, she attends workshops and courses frequently.
FUN FACT: Rissa loves adventure! She has climbed Mount Kinabalu(the highest mountain in Southeast Asia @ 4095m and the Potala Palace (world’s highest palace @ 3700m) in Lhasa, Tibet.

Chen Qing
Chinese Lead Teacher
Chen Qing brings with her 34 years of experience in teaching early learners. She was the Head of the Chinese Department at a Montessori kindergarten in charge of designing the curriculum and managing a team of teachers before joining Primus. Chen Qing is well-versed in early childhood pedagogy, child psychology, Chinese dance and Chinese brush painting.
She has a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and is currently pursuing certification in Special Education and a degree in Early Childhood and Chinese Language Education.
Chen Qing is passionate about teaching young children and has made this her life-long career. She draws her inspiration from every little step that children take in their learning.
FUN FACT: Chen Qing’s dream is to one day rent a motorhome and travel the world with her family, seeing many beautiful places.

Ain Marzuki
Learning Enhancement Assistant
Ain has been working in the Early Childhood Education industry since 2016. She has experienced being a Trainee teacher, an Assistant Educator, and a Room Leader/Supervising Leader. She has been working for the past 4 years in Western Australia after receiving her qualification.
As an educator, she strives in creativity. It is one of her strengths and she loves setting up creative educational environments for children to be engaged in. She believes children are unique in their individual ways and that children learn in different ways.
She believes it is important to build genuine relationships with the family to nurture a sense of belonging. She feels that children learn and grow best in a warm, safe and positive environment. She strives to guide and nurture each child’s individual needs. She is amazed that she plays such an important and positive role in a child’s early years and is grateful that she has found her passion.
FUN FACT: Ain has been playing the guitar since she was 12 years old!

Samantha Charles
Lead English Teacher
Samantha has been working with youth and children for 9 years. She started her journey with a Diploma in Mass Communication and through it found her passion for children, pursuing a career in Early Years Education. She graduated with a teaching Diploma in Early Childhood and subsequently a BA in Early Childhood Education with Monash University (Australia).
Samantha worked at UWCSEA as a Teacher Assistant where she was able to learn more about international curriculum and best practices. She has also experienced working in an SME based pre-school as a lead and senior teacher. Working with a varied age group of children and assisting with different operations of the school.
Samantha believes that every child is different and that difference makes them unique. As educators, we embrace that difference but also have the responsibility to make a difference.
FUN FACT: Sam’s dream is to do a Durian Tour all over Asia. Did you know Malaysia alone has 100 varieties of this pungent fruit!

Meng Zhao Ying
Lead Chinese Teacher
Meng Zhao Ying is a passionate early childhood educator who has dedicated 30 years of her working life to teaching Chinese to young children.
Meng Meng was the Head of Cheng Zhu Mandarin Kindergarten before becoming a freelance drama teacher and tutor. Her experience amassed from designing the curriculum and teaching in Julia Gabriel Center for Learning for 13 years, has enabled her to be an extremely effective and engaging teacher.
Meng Zhao Ying has a Diploma in Teaching Chinese Language and is also a specialist in teaching Speech and Drama.
FUN FACT: Meng Meng loves to challenge herself. Her achievements range from a half-marathon to paragliding in Nepal, and zip-lining in Laos!

Wai Shim Chong
Lead English Teacher
Previously from a marketing background, Wai Shim began her journey in early childhood education teaching music to the pre-schoolers in various centres. She soon discovered that early years education was her passion.
Wai Shim holds a ABRSM Grade 7 Pianoforte and Diploma in Kindergarten Teaching. She has taught for five years in kindergartens and childcare centres. Wai Shim was involved in the “Start Small Dream Big” projects in her previous centres, instilling values education through these projects so she is naturally drawn to the Virtues Project at Primus Schoolhouse.
Wai Shim believes that every child is a curious and competent learner and as teachers, it is our responsibility to help ignite their interests and passions.
FUN FACT: Wai Shim can’t wait for the day that she can return to Switzerland and paraglide over the spectacular Titlis Glacier in Engelberg. Can you imagine the panorama!

Qi Wei
Lead Chinese Teacher
Qi Wei has been in the early childhood sector for nearly 17 years. She holds a Diploma in Preschool Education and is now pursuing her BA in Chinese Language and Literacy at Singapore University of Social Science.
Qi Wei believes that a teacher’s job extends beyond teaching. Teachers play an important role in nurturing students with important life skills that enables them to deal effectively with challenges in everyday life. She believes that teaching is more than just imparting knowledge to students; inculcating students with values that support them to achieve life goals is even more important.
Qi Wei is a big fan of painting and calligraphy and loves spicy food!
FUN FACT: Qi Wei’s dream is to travel around the world with her family.

Nur Erika Eliana Binte Normin
Learning Enhancement Assistant
Erika has recently completed her Fundamentals Certification of Early Childhood Care & Education. She is passionate to teach as she hopes to inspire young minds and grow with them through their developmental milestones. She is looking forward to embarking on a learning journey with each and every child.
Erika is pleased to be a part of the Primus family and work alongside other amazing teachers. During the weekends, Erika loves to catchup with loved ones and have some me-time sitting by the beach and enjoying the breeze.
FUN FACT: Who would have guessed that JJ Lin’s biggest fan is right here at Primus! Erika dreams of becoming a barista for his world-famous coffee shop – Miracle Coffee.

Cindy Yap
Lead English Teacher
Cindy has been an educator for 13 years in kindergarten and childcare settings. Before joining Primus, she led a Montessori Preschool as a Vice-Principal.
Cindy believes that all children matter and they grow and learn at their optimal when they feel safe. Children learn in different ways – some learn by hearing, some by reading, some by doing. There is never a fixed or right way to their developments.
Cindy has a Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education with Wheelock College and is currently pursuing her Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Leadership (ADECL) with NIEC by MoE.
FUN FACT: Cindy’s dream is to one day be a DJ and to make thousands of people dance the night away.

Wang Su Mei
Lead Chinese Teacher
Wang Su Mei has been teaching early years children for 8 years. Before joining Primus, she has taught at Berries World of Learning, Character Montessori Pte Ltd, and Initium Academy Pte Ltd, working with children from the ages of 2 to 8 years old.
Wang Su Mei holds a Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education-Teaching (Chinese) and a Diploma in Special Needs Education (Preschool). She is currently pursuing a degree in Early Childhood and Chinese Language Education.
Sumei believes in planning individualised learning experiences to meet the developmental needs of each of the children under her care. The children thoroughly enjoy and appreciate her warmth, enthusiasm, and caring approach.
FUN FACT: Su Mei hopes to one day own a farm where she can have a self-sustainable lifestyle with her family!

Nur Syazwani Binte Ariffin
Learning Enhancement Assistant
Nur Syazwani has been in the early childhood sector for 11 years. Her experience includes teaching in a Montessori kindergarten and local preschools. Wani is professionally trained in Early Childhood with SEED Institute and Ngee Ann Polytechnic/NIEC.
As an educator, Wani takes pride in nurturing and guiding children to discover the joy of learning and maximise each child’s potential. She truly believes that the early years in a child’s life are the most essential period to develop social skills, responsibility, and independence.
FUN FACT: Wani enjoys cooking and experimenting in the kitchen but she has a long way to go before participating in the Great British Bake Off!

Sharina Shahri
Lead English Teacher
Sharina has been in the Early Childhood industry since 2011. She has worked in local child care centres and kindergartens. Having pursued her interest in special needs, she completed a Specialist Diploma in Special Education Needs (Preschool) in 2019.
Sharina enjoys activities such as playing netball and bowling with her family and friends. She is constantly in awe of the sense of wonderment in children. Sharina strives to create an environment where the children discover their surroundings, from the biggest inquiry to the tiniest, the sky’s the limit!
FUN FACT: Sharina has always been fascinated with animals and would love to have her own little educational zoo of reptiles, amphibians, insects, aquatic life and especially cats and kittens!

Lea Deinn
Lead Chinese Teacher
Lea Deinn is a qualified early childhood educator. She holds a Bachelor Degree of Early Childhood & Family Education from National Taiwan University of Education (NTUE). She has been teaching Chinese for the past 6 years.
Prior to joining Primus Schoolhouse, she has taught at schools that cater to local and international students in Singapore. She enjoys enjoy a thematic based and learning-centres approach in education.
Lea Deinn strives to create a warm and fun environment in her classes. She believes that learning through play and exploration engages her students to be focused, happy, and creative.
FUN FACT: Cakes, bread, and Mantou! Lea Deinn loves to bake and cannot wait to get into the kitchen to start her next delectable creation.

Priya Periasamy
Learning Enhancement Assistant
Priya has been in the Early Childhood industry for the past 7 years. She is a Learning Enhancement Assistant for our younger children at Primus Schoolhouse.
She is passionate and loves building confidence with our little ones. She is gentle and always goes the extra mile with her helpfulness. Priya uses her creativity and her passion for art to bring about a dynamic experience to the classroom.
Priya believes “It’s always meaningful to be a part of the little one’s life journey. Seeing them learning new things; watching them grow every day makes me grow as well. I am thrilled and excited to be working with your child and ensuring them a safe and smooth journey in school! “
FUN FACT: Priya secretly would love to go on a solo trip to Istanbul and Rajasthan to experience the culture and taste the exquisite food!

Dhalia Ralip MacCallum
Lead English Teacher
Dhalia is a passionate early childhood professional who sees every child as an individual. She strongly believes that by providing a positive and safe learning
environment, young learners will be able to express their thoughts and abilities leading to their own optimal holistic development.
Dhalia holds a First-Class Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Studies from Birmingham City University (UK) and a Professional Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education (SG). Through her course of studies and experiences, she is well-versed in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Nurturing Early Learners (NEL) curriculums and greatly advocates that young children learn best through play.
Prior to joining Primus Schoolhouse, Dhalia specialized in language and literacy development and coding enrichment classes. She also has a keen interest in effective technology integration in the early years.
FUN FACT: Dhalia is an avid skier! Now a family tradition, she goes skiing in Japan every year.

Chen Mei
Lead Chinese Teacher
Chen Mei is a qualified early childhood teacher with 5 years of teaching experience.
She is a professional cultural dancer who loves playing the piano. She has conducted speech and drama classes and organised graduation concerts for kindergarten children. She enjoys being with young children, helping them to learn and develop their various skills.
Chen Mei is motivated to acquire more knowledge in this profession to bring out the best in our children.
FUN FACT: Chen Mei is trained in the art of traditional Chinese dance as well as the Hulusi flute – a wind instrument native to China.

Angie Ng
Learning Enhancement Assistant
Angie completed her Advanced Diploma in Early Years Teaching (Kindergarten) and worked in PCF for seven years, teaching all levels as a class teacher. She has led various projects with schools, for example, the Innovation Guidance Project.
In her class, Angie carefully plans to ensure differentiated learning to cater to the children’s learning styles.
Angie believes that the children develop holistically when they are given time and a wide range of opportunities.
FUN FACT: As a little girl, Angie has always wanted to go to Iceland to see the Northern Lights.

Veronika Bernard (Veron)
Learning Enhancement Assistant
Veron has been working in the Early Childhood Education for over 15 years. She is enthusiastic about working with young children and their families. She looks forward to being a part of their learning journey especially celebrating them at every milestone. Seeing the joy on their faces is truly rewarding and memorable.
Veron believes teaching, trust, care and respect is a two-way street. Children teach us to see things from a different perspective because of their natural curiosity and a sense of wonder. Thus, she learns from them as much as they learn from her.
Besides, caring, teaching and working. Veronika enjoys spending weekends with her family and friends.
FUN FACT: If you ever need a beauty tip don’t hesitate to ask Veron, she has the ability to transform anyone into a Hollywood star!
